Scripture/Prayer for the Thanksgiving Table

13 Oct 2024

Here is an idea to keep God in Thanksgiving. Go around the table, take a turn reading a Scripture, then share your prayer or use ours that follows the Scripture readings. As an option, each person can share what they are thankful for this year, too. Here we go!

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, bless his name.” For the Lord is good: his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”  (Psalm 100: 4-5

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7)

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2).

"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" (Psalm 107:1)

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. (Psalm 28:7)

A Short Prayer (add to it if you wish!).

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the many blessings that you have given us, especially your love and mercy. Thank you for our nation and the rights and freedoms that we enjoy, and for the men and women who have served to keep us safe. Thank you for our loved ones, giving depth and adding purpose to our lives. Thank you for our homes that keep us warm and safe and for the food that nourishes us.  Lord, your Word teaches that you knew us before we were born and love us now despite our shortcomings. You call us to draw closer to you, to follow you. Let our thankfulness lead us to seek you out and do your will.  In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen!
