What inspired Matt Redman and Jonas Myrin's highly popular song,“10,000 Reasons"? According to Redman, it flowed right out of scripture, Psalm 103, in which David finds many reasons to be grateful to God and to bless his holy name. Redman added that if we wake up in the morning and do not find things to be thankful to God for, something is wrong with our spiritual outlook.
You can read Psalm 103 at the bottom of this post before taking a fresh listen of the song. Then, fast-forward to the 2:50 mark in this video to go right to the song performance and lyrics.
We might not get to 10,000, but we can develop longer lists of reasons to be thankful and praise God for all he has done, is doing, and will do. God hears our genuine praise; we can do that anytime, anywhere.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for all that you do. Forgive me for not being thankful enough or praising you in the way that I should. Change my heart to one that finds many reasons to express my gratitude and praise. Thank you for your compassion in removing my sins “as far as the east is from the west” through the work of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
